The first classification of silicon metal is based on its purity level. It is classified into three groups: high-purity silicon metal, standard silicon metal, and low-grade silicon metal.

High-purity silicon metal is a product with a purity level of 99.999 percent and above. It is mainly used in the semiconductor and solar industries due to its high purity level that makes it suitable for producing silicon wafers and solar cells.

The second category is standard silicon metal, which has a purity level between 98.5 percent and 99.5 percent . It is mainly used in the aluminum and chemical industries for the production of aluminum-silicon alloys and silicone materials.

The third classification is low-grade silicon metal, which has a purity level of less than 98.5 percent . It is mainly used in the production of silicones, fumed silica, and other chemical applications.

Fine grain silicon metal has a grain size of less than 100 microns. It is mainly used in the production of sintered parts and in powder metallurgy.

Medium grain silicon metal has a grain size of between 100 and 200 microns. It is widely used in the aluminum industry for the production of aluminum-silicon alloys.

Coarse grain silicon metal has a grain size of between 200 and 400 microns. It is mainly used in the production of silicone materials.

Extra coarse grain silicon metal has a grain size of between 400 and 800 microns. It is mainly used in the chemical industry for the production of silicones and fumed silica.

Lump silicon metal has a grain size of more than 800 microns and is used in electrode production and in the production of ferrosilicon alloys.
